The OFFICIAL best singles of 2017 as per THE MOST RESPECTED music journalist … ME

Move over Pitchfork. Pigeons & Planes, take off. Genius, you won’t be feeling so brilliant after you read this and have a listen. I present the best songs of 2017. This is a dictatorship and these are the best jams of 2017 because I said so. You want hyperbole, you’ve come to the right place.

This playlist contains the music of almost all genres, except for the ones that don’t really count. Heavy metal, I’m looking at you. Jazz & Punk, you’re getting some side-eye right now. Again … dictatorship, remember?

I had initially planned to distil this list down to the best 150 tracks as my cohort the Flamingo Pharoah is known to do but then I thought to myself, why trim down my platinum taste? If Futsch & Thugger can release multiple 20+ track projects annually, why shouldn’t I share 233 gems? Who doesn’t want 14 hrs and 33 minutes of absolute ear candy?

So I guess I only have one thing left to say: YOU. ARE. WELCOME. Hit the shuffle button, press play and consider your day’s listening sorted.

DRAMA ALERT!!!! Low Lifes have differing musical tastes

The podcast is on an indefinite hiatus, we’re individually making big boy moves in our respective careers and unfortunately the music isn’t flowing betwixt us like it once used to.

The theory of evolution would indicate that when life forces take separate directions, change occurs naturally and differences increase, but that doesn’t change the fact that as one third of the L3 crew I have squandered the summer and not made more of an effort to convince the remainder of the gentlemen of the massive movement happening south of the equator.

It’s cuffing season and October’s Very Own month is here. This is one last ditch effort to bridge the divide before a sheet of white on the ground only increases the divide. The title is click baity but … desperate times call for …

10 songs, 40 minutes. A small introduction to tickle the taste buds. An aperitif, if you will.

Pharrell Appreciation Hour

Skateboard P Wall Art

I’ve been seeing his name pop up on some of the new kid’s albums and they’re real sleeper hits. The man continues to deliver so writing an honorarium is the best way of paying tribute. But let’s rewind to the beginning and go through a very quick, unresearched, completely opinion based “hits history.”

We start in the days of The Neptunes when Chad & Pharrell were largely producing and Jay-Z jumped on board to create the hit Frontin’. He also produced / rapped on some jams with fellow Virginians, the Clipse.

Next we get into Skateboard P era. This is the generation I connected with least but listen to the most. That doesn’t make sense and I’m not here to unpack this one, them’s just the facts. I used to walk an hour plus, home from work and listen to the whole albums …

My least favourite era is then followed by my, well, favourite. The Daft Punk days. Besides the hits we all know, he released a highly underrated album that was his answer to his work with the Frenchies.

He’s been going international recognizing the movement growing south of the equator.

And that brings us back to back to today’s sleepers.

Sweeter Dreams, the EP

Ramriddlz Sweeter Dreams EPIt’s a Tuesday afternoon, I’m working away and then I hear someone knocking at my door. “We’ll isn’t this just curious,” I think to myself, “I’m not expecting any packages in the mail.”

I peep through the little door viewer and the guy looks familiar but I just can’t put a name to face. I open the door anyways. Say yes to life … am I right?

“Hellooooo?!” I say, going up in tone with all those o’s.

“Good Sir,” replies the stranger “I am aware that this unexpected visit of mine is rather creepy, but I could surmise no other method to garner your attention. You’re major leagues now, Big Nemo.”

Then he hands me a copy of his album with a bunch of swag and it clicks for me. It’s fellow Torontonian Ramriddlz. “If I give you all this swag, can I get that stimulus package?” says Ramrod as he makes prayer hands.

I respect the hustle.

“Listen, keep your stuff. I don’t do merch and I’ve got a premium Spotify account so I don’t need the album but keep your eyes peeled on the Lowlife’s site.”

I close the door & get back to work. Time to move!

This tactic worked for the Sweeterman but to all you other musicians, I will not answer the door again. Respect my agency!

Sad Country Music

Farmer and Crying Dog

These EP’s I started creating initially for the fun of it have become an industry MUST have. The pressure has taken its toll. It’s become overwhelming. I’ve become too immersed in the realm of hip-hop and losing my way so I’m making a hard skrrt left, at least for this one post. I need to reground myself.

I’ve put together a 10 track country playlist. This isn’t just country music. It’s sad, melancholy country music. I’ve got Oprah on speed dial so I sent her a copy. She replied with this GIF. She apparently forwarded it to Beyonce, then Drake and Johnny Depp got wind of it and it ended up making its way around the cast members of the office, luckily Steven Carrell was able to reign them all in.
